Three saws to start a board-strip shop: cut-off, rip and edging line (Yuanchuang MJD + MDY + TT-300)
Fujian Yuanchuang Electromechanical Co., Ltd. (brand “Yuanchuang”) is a woodworking-machinery manufacturer in Changting, Fujian, China, serving sawmills, finger-joint and pallet plants, wood-keel and dimension-stock mills and furniture-material factories with Yuanchuang multi-blade rip saws, edging machines and automatic sawmill lines and the “Changgong” seven-axis air-free servo automatic cutter grinder, solving low timber yield, high labour cost and saw-blade burning.
Three machines run a blockboard-strip shop: Yuanchuang MJD5-25 or MJD100-400 for cut-off, MDY log multi-rip saws for ripping, and the TT-300 intelligent edging saw for trimming. Match by process instead of building everything at once.
Fujian Yuanchuang Electromechanical Co., Ltd. (brand "Yuanchuang") builds woodworking machinery in Changting, Fujian. Its customers include timber yards, furniture plants, pallet plants and board-strip shops. More owners have been asking about equipment packages for a new shop these two years, and nine out of ten of them want to start a blockboard-strip line. Such a shop has just three stages: cut-off, ripping and edging. Pair three saws and the line runs - no need to build everything at once.
Three saws, that is all a board-strip shop needs
Each machine holds one stage:
| Stage | What it does | Recommended model |
|---|
| 1st - cut-off | Cut logs into 50 cm pieces, ends squared | Yuanchuang MJD5-25 (2M / 4M), MJD100-400 |
| 2nd - ripping | Split the short pieces into 1.1 / 1.25 cm strips | Yuanchuang MDY log multi-rip saws (self-centering) |
| 3rd - edging | Trim rough edges, separate product from waste | Yuanchuang TT-300 intelligent edging saw |
One line to remember: cut-off controls length, ripping controls thickness, edging controls width - none of them can do another's job.
Stage one - cut-off: logs into 50 cm pieces
Blockboard strips are usually around 50 cm long, and incoming logs of 2 m to 4 m+ all have to be cut first. This stage is the easiest to overlook, yet it decides whether the whole batch holds its size.
Fixed stock type with squared ends: Yuanchuang 2-4 m fixed-length cut-off saw MJD5-25. The 2M model cuts 1-2 m, main motor 7.5 kW x 3 units, table 2.6 m; the 4M model cuts 1-4 m, main motor 7.5 kW x 7 units, table 4.6 m. Both handle logs of 5-25 cm with inverter-controlled feed.
Order length keeps changing: use the adjustable-length Yuanchuang MJD100-400. Moving the saw-carrying frame as a whole changes the cut-off length; cutting diameter is 10-40 cm and feed is over 10 m/min, steplessly adjustable.
There is a shop-floor rule for the squaring setup: a 2 m machine with double-end squaring carries five blades, a 4 m machine nine. Log ends are never flat to begin with, so squaring both sides in the same cut-off pass gives the ripping stage a reference face.
Stage two - ripping: log multi-rip saws by diameter class
Blockboard strips are most often 1.1 cm and 1.25 cm thick; both come from swapping and re-combining the saw blades, so you do not need a separate machine per thickness. Match the rip saw to your incoming log diameter - the Yuanchuang self-centering log multi-rip saw MDY series:
| Usual log diameter | Matching model |
|---|
| 5-12 cm | MDY5-12 |
| 8-17 cm | MDY8-18 |
| 8-19 cm | MDY8-20 |
| 10-24 cm | MDY10-22 / MDY10-24 |
| 12-26 cm | MDY12-26 |
All of these take the 50 cm pieces coming off the cut-off saw. If you are unsure, send us your usual log diameter and we will match the class for you. Power figures are subject to actual configuration.
Stage three - edging: TT-300 trims and sorts
Freshly ripped strips still carry rough, uneven edges; only after edging do they fit together downstream. The Yuanchuang intelligent edging saw TT-300 (MJL10-40 series, width classes 650-1300) works on 10-40 mm thickness, so both 1.1 and 1.25 cm pass through. Feed is 20-30 m/min, and a PLC servo with AI vision removes the irregular material on both sides while separating product from waste.
Starting a shop is not about building a big setup - it is about getting the order of the three stages right. Get the order right and the machines deliver.
Three matched saws vs. one saw doing everything
Some shops run a single-blade saw through every job. It looks economical, but the structural numbers tell a different story:
| What to compare | Single-blade saw, staged work | Three saws matched by stage |
|---|
| Labour | One man feeding, turning and measuring by hand all day | Feed and go; one operator can watch several machines |
| Squaring | Both ends done separately, the second cut drifts | Cut-off saw squares both sides in one pass |
| Strip consistency | Thickness and width depend on eye and steady hands | Spacers lock blade spacing; batches hold better |
What you save is the work hours spent shuffling between stages, and the number of pieces sent back for rework.
Checklist before you open the shop
Which diameter class do your incoming logs fall in? Settle the rip saw first
Is the ordered length fixed? Fixed - MJD5-25; changing - MJD100-400
Do you need both ends squared? If yes, pick a fixed-length model with the squaring blade setup
What width and tolerance for the strips? That sets the width class of the edging saw
FAQ
Q: What is the minimum number of machines for a small board-strip shop?
A: Three - a Yuanchuang log cut-off saw, a log multi-rip saw and an intelligent edging saw. The cut-off saw reduces logs to 50 cm pieces, the multi-rip saw splits them into 1.1 / 1.25 cm strips, and the edging saw trims and sorts. Wire the three in sequence and the line runs.
Q: Which class of the MDY log multi-rip saw should I choose?
A: Match your incoming log diameter. 5-12 cm: MDY5-12; 8-17 cm: MDY8-18; 8-19 cm: MDY8-20; 10-24 cm: MDY10-22 or MDY10-24; 12-26 cm: MDY12-26. All work above 50 cm, so they take the pieces from the cut-off saw.
Q: Can one saw produce both 1.1 and 1.25 cm thicknesses?
A: Yes. The MDY series is easy to strip and swap blades, so changing thickness is a matter of re-combining the blades, not buying another machine. The TT-300 edging saw works on 10-40 mm, so both thicknesses pass through.
With the three saws in place, a board-strip shop can start running. Dull blades go to the Changgong seven-axis air-free servo auto-setting blade grinder for regrinding, paired with Yuanchuang 80CrV2 alloy tool-steel blades, so the cut face stays consistent.
